Israeli Tax Authority Inspectors Attacked with Eggs in Bnei Brak, Rescued by Police
On Wednesday, teams from the Israeli Tax Authority entered the Vizhnitz neighborhood in Bnei Brak to conduct routine enforcement activities. Before the inspectors could begin their work, they were identified by local residents, likely due to prior warnings among business owners about the inspection. A group of residents followed the inspectors, shouting "Income Tax, Income Tax" and throwing eggs at them and their vehicle. Within minutes, hundreds of youths and children gathered around, defacing the inspectors and their vehicle.
Police forces from the Dan district arrived promptly and managed to evacuate the Tax Authority personnel from the neighborhood, preventing physical harm. Shay Aharonovitch, the head of the Tax Authority, condemned the attack strongly and assured that the authority would provide full support to its employees to operate wherever necessary.
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich also condemned the violence in a post on X, calling the attackers "lawless thugs" and emphasizing that such violence against law enforcement officials would not be tolerated. He expressed full backing for the Tax Authority workers and demanded that the Israeli Police and enforcement agencies swiftly and decisively impose the full extent of the law on the perpetrators.
