IDF Soldier Leads Battle Command Center After Cousin’s Death in Combat
Private T, a soldier in the IDF’s Nahal Brigade, shared his deep bond with his late cousin, Staff Sergeant Ben Cohen, who was killed in combat. The two grew up together and enlisted in the same brigade, with T following Cohen into the elite Sayeret reconnaissance unit. Cohen’s dedication inspired T to join the drone team within the unit, where he now serves.
During a recent encounter with enemy forces, T rushed to the command center to manage the situation from the air, unaware at first that Cohen had fallen in the firefight. He later learned from his company commander that four soldiers from Cohen’s team had been killed. Despite the loss, T is committed to continuing Cohen’s legacy by training new soldiers and instilling his spirit and values.
Cohen was known for his unwavering commitment to his team, choosing to remain on the front lines rather than pursue command roles. His comrades described him as the heart of the team, always giving his all and uplifting those around him with his smile and kindness. The team felt his absence deeply, especially during significant moments like their ascent of Mount Kanaiim, a traditional site for celebrating discharge from the IDF.
Cohen’s team commander praised his professionalism, leadership, and responsibility as a combat engineer who often led the charge in attacks. Cohen’s care for fellow soldiers extended beyond combat, as he regularly supported other units with food and morale. His legacy continues to inspire his unit, who honor him by carrying forward his dedication and positive spirit.
