Mads Pedersen Wins Stage 4 as Norwegian Torstein Træen Takes Yellow Jersey at Tour de France
After three grueling days in the Tour de France, the favorites eased off, allowing a breakaway group to dominate the fourth stage. Danish cyclist Mads Pedersen claimed victory in the 181-kilometer stage finishing in Foix, winning a selective sprint at the line. This marked Pedersen's first Tour de France stage win since 2023, achieved after leading a group of ten riders for nearly 178 kilometers. Kevin Simons, the U.S. champion and Pedersen's teammate at Lidl-Trek, finished second, while Raúl García from Movistar took third. Marco Frigo of NSN and Rasmus de Breyne shared fourth and fifth places respectively.
The Scandinavian success continued as Norwegian rider Torstein Træen of the UNO-X team took the yellow jersey by moving into eighth place overall. All the main favorites crossed the finish line 13 minutes behind Pedersen, resulting in Tadej Pogačar losing the yellow jersey just one day after acquiring it. Jonas Vingegaard, Isaac del Toro, and Remco Evenepoel finished safely alongside Pogačar. The stage highlighted a shift in the general classification and a notable breakaway triumph.
