Sinai Citizen Sentenced for Causing Death Arrested Trying to Flee Israel
A Sinai citizen sentenced to 13 months in prison for causing death was arrested Tuesday morning while attempting to leave Israel through the Jordan River border crossing, the Population and Immigration Authority reported. The man entered Israel in 2019 on a work visa for the construction sector but had been staying without a valid permit since late 2022. After his prison sentence was handed down and he was required to begin serving it, he tried to exit the country via the border crossing. Cooperation between the Foreign Enforcement Administration and the Border Control Administration led to his detection and arrest before he could leave Israel. Israeli police were called to the scene, and he was taken for further processing. Boaz Yosef, CEO of the Population and Immigration Authority, praised the staff's vigilance and professionalism, highlighting the importance of inter-agency cooperation in preventing the escape.
