New York Mayor Adams' Office Clashes with ABC Over Host's Antisemitism Claim
The office of New York City Mayor Eric Adams confronted ABC following comments made by Sarah Haines, a host on the talk show "The View," who labeled a socialist congressional candidate supported by Adams as antisemitic. According to a report by Semafor, Adams recently bolstered his political influence after three candidates he backed won Democratic primaries in New York. His office sought to promote these candidates on "The View," but the show's producers declined the request.
On the June 24 broadcast, hosts Alyssa Farah Griffin and Sarah Haines criticized several candidates endorsed by Adams. Haines specifically referred to candidate Darlisa Avila Sibley, accusing her of participating in an anti-Israel rally on October 8, 2023, the day after a massacre, and stated, "I’m just going to call her antisemitic. She would proudly wear that label, believe me."
Following these remarks, one of Adams' aides angrily contacted senior ABC officials, warning that Haines' statement could jeopardize future appearances by the mayor or his supported candidates on the network. Neither Adams' office nor ABC has responded to requests for comment on the incident.
