Prominent Gur Hasid Rabbi Yaakov Cohen Levin Dies at 40 in Kiryat Gat

The city of Kiryat Gat mourns the sudden passing of Rabbi Yaakov Cohen Levin, a respected Gur Hasid and community leader, who died at the age of 40 after a severe illness. Known for his devout spirituality and dedication, Rabbi Levin managed the neighborhood charity 'Mishnat Yosef' in the old Haredi district, providing support to many families with great commitment. He regularly prayed at the Gur Hasid synagogue on Gaon HaYarden Street, known as the 'Dona' shtibel, where he was a prominent figure.

In recent weeks, Rabbi Levin maintained close weekly contact with Rabbi Elimelech Biderman, a spiritual mentor who frequently spoke with him by phone to offer strength. About a month ago, Rabbi Biderman visited him at home for an extended private conversation. During the last ten days, Rabbi Levin was hospitalized, sedated, and on a ventilator, with many prayers offered for his recovery. His kidneys ceased functioning over the Sabbath, and he passed away early Tuesday morning, deeply mourned by his family, friends, and the entire city.

He leaves behind seven young orphans, including a newborn daughter who will never know her father. The funeral procession will begin Tuesday at 12:30 PM from his home on Shnir Street in Kiryat Gat, proceeding to the 'Dona' shtibel on Gaon HaYarden Street. It will then continue to Jerusalem, arriving at the Gur Hasid study hall on Yirmiyahu Street at 4:00 PM for burial on Har HaMenuchot. The community prays that his soul be bound in the bond of life.
