Tottenham Signs Sandro Tonali in Record-Breaking £100 Million Deal

Tottenham Hotspur officially completed the signing of Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United on July 6, 2026. The 26-year-old signed a six-year contract with the North London club in a transfer deal reportedly worth up to £100 million (approximately $133 million), making it the most expensive transfer in Tottenham's history. This deal surpasses the previous club record of £65 million paid for Dominic Solanke in August 2024 and follows a recent record-breaking signing of Matheus Fernandes from West Ham United for around £85 million.

The transfer fee for Tonali includes an initial £92.5 million plus £7.5 million in future bonuses tied to Champions League qualifications. Tonali becomes Tottenham's sixth signing this summer amid a busy transfer window, joining Andy Robertson, Martin Dúbravka, Marcos Senesi, Jan Paul van Hecke, and Matheus Fernandes. Tottenham is aiming to improve after finishing 17th in the Premier League for the second consecutive season.

Tonali played 35 Premier League matches for Newcastle last season and was a key figure in their midfield, although the team finished 12th. Previously, Tonali faced a significant suspension due to a gambling scandal but has since returned to form and reestablished himself as a top European midfielder.
