Samaria Council Head Secures European Parliament Support Against West Bank Sanctions
Yossi Dagan, head of the Samaria Regional Council, has intensified efforts to counteract European Union sanctions targeting organizations and individuals in the West Bank. Following attempts by far-left groups to impose these sanctions, Dagan engaged with several European parliament members during a brief visit to Romania, where he also met with leading Romanian presidential candidate George Simion. He highlighted the contradiction of sanctioning social organizations in the West Bank amid ongoing Palestinian terrorism against Israelis.
European parliamentarians expressed strong support for the West Bank and Israel. Georgiana Teodorescu stated, "We remain alongside the West Bank and Israel. We will fight any attempt to advance sanctions in the European Parliament." European Senator Patrisor Paio affirmed opposition to sanctions on the West Bank and emphasized support for Israel's right to live in peace, hoping to strengthen Israeli-Romanian friendship. Other members, including Fabian Radu and Stefan Avramescu, echoed solidarity with Israel and the West Bank.
Dagan responded by stressing the shared struggle for values, justice, and security, declaring, "We fight together for the future of the entire world. Whether in Europe, the United States, or Israel, it is the same battle." This visit follows a series of diplomatic meetings Dagan has held recently with European leaders, including Simion and Slovenia’s Prime Minister-elect Janez Janša, aimed at bolstering international ties and rallying opposition to sanction initiatives against Israel and the West Bank.
