News12 Analyst Amnon Abramovich Reveals Facing Severe Threats Amid Political Violence
Amnon Abramovich, a senior analyst for Israel's News12, spoke out on Monday regarding a violent incident the previous evening when a masked assailant smashed a glass window at the News12 studios. He condemned the rise of political violence, calling it a disgraceful phenomenon that should be universally rejected. Abramovich emphasized that while he did not want to focus solely on the News12 incident, the issue of political violence transcends individual cases.
Reflecting on his personal experiences, Abramovich disclosed that he has faced serious threats over many years, describing them as part of a deliberate and orchestrated campaign of incitement. He noted that modern social media platforms amplify such threats. Although he acknowledged that no segment of society is exempt from involvement in this issue, he criticized the current government’s tone, suggesting it contributes to the hostile atmosphere.
Abramovich also addressed the government’s recent decision to disregard a Supreme Court ruling concerning the Second Authority for Television and Radio. He criticized the government’s refusal to honor the court’s decision that the authority’s council could convene in its previous composition to make substantive decisions. Instead, the council members resigned en masse in a move Abramovich called transparent, political, and deceitful. He highlighted the contradiction between the court’s directive and the council’s response.
Finally, Abramovich singled out two government ministers, Yoav Levin and Dr. Karei, for criticism. He accused Levin of advocating for Israel to become a "one-authority state." Regarding Dr. Karei, Abramovich pointed out the irony in his quoting of Yitzhak Rabin, given Rabin’s historical criticisms of both settlements and Benjamin Netanyahu, whom he once accused of supporting Hamas in the early 1990s.
