Mark Zuckerberg Advances Secret Hawaii Project to Breed 'World's Best Steak'
Mark Zuckerberg is personally managing a unique cattle breeding project on his large Kauai estate in Hawaii, aiming to produce what he calls the world's best steak. The initiative, which Zuckerberg revealed on Instagram about two years ago, is not commercial but driven by his curiosity about cattle genetics. Since around 2024, he has focused on breeding Wagyu and Angus cattle on his expansive property, which spans at least 23 square kilometers and is valued at approximately $300 million. The estate features two large homes, a gym, a tennis court, guest houses, and an underground shelter the size of a basketball court.
Zuckerberg has dedicated part of the farm to growing macadamia trees, whose nuts are roasted and fed to the cattle to promote rapid weight gain and enhance meat quality. Additionally, the cattle are given beer brewed on-site alongside regular water. According to reports, Zuckerberg's older daughters assist with tree planting and animal care. He describes the project as an ongoing experimental base, exploring how selective breeding, feed composition, and herd management can influence beef flavor and texture.
His team is refining the cattle's diet down to specific crops and beverage choices to perfect the meat's marbling and taste. Zuckerberg emphasizes that he pursues interests beyond his core responsibilities, using this project to investigate innovative approaches to cattle breeding and beef production.
