IDF Approves Major Pilgrimage to Rabbi Yitzhak Gabra's Tomb in Ajjur with New Shuttle System
Thousands of Jews from across Israel gather annually on the 21st of Tammuz to visit the tomb of Rabbi Yitzhak Gabra, known as the 'Worker of Miracles,' in Ajjur. This year, the pilgrimage is scheduled for Monday, July 6, 2026, with preparations beginning the evening before at 7:00 PM. After months of planning and coordination with all relevant authorities, the Israeli Police have officially approved the event under strict safety regulations. The entire event is generously funded by donors to ensure public accessibility.
A new dedicated road bypassing the village has been constructed to reduce congestion and avoid disturbing local residents. Private vehicles will be directed via Route 35 and Beit Guvrin Junction to Luzit parking lot, where free shuttle buses will transport pilgrims to the "Eretz Kedem" complex starting at 7:00 PM. From there, visitors will walk a few minutes to the holy site. Route 38 and the entrance through the Agur settlement will be completely closed to traffic and pedestrians, with separate entrances prepared for men and women, and numerous marshals guiding the crowd.
Centralized shuttle lines will operate from various cities including Beit Shemesh, Jerusalem, Beitar Illit, and Rishon Lezion, with contact numbers provided for each. A general information line is also available, along with a phone number for updates on new departure points.
For the first time, in cooperation with the Yedidim organization, four electric mobility scooters will be stationed at the Eretz Kedem parking lot to assist elderly and disabled visitors in reaching the tomb safely via the new access road. Additionally, United Hatzalah medical teams will be present throughout the event to provide immediate medical assistance if needed.
