Israeli Airline Arkia Makes History with First Flight to Arctic Svalbard Archipelago

Israeli airline Arkia recently completed four special flights to the Svalbard Archipelago in the Arctic Ocean, marking the first time an Israeli plane landed at Longyearbyen Airport, the northernmost commercial airport in the world. The flights, operated with an Airbus A320, included a refueling stop in Helsinki before continuing to Svalbard, considered the gateway to the North Pole.

The operation required special logistical and operational preparations due to the challenging conditions and distance. Arkia partnered with Spirit Productions World to organize these unique flights, building on previous collaborations for exclusive destinations. Arkia CEO Oz Berlovitz highlighted the project as a demonstration of the airline's high operational capability and team flexibility, expressing pride in leading historic and complex aviation missions.
