Channel 12 Faces Sanctions Over Host Dana Weiss's Controversial Remarks on Rabbis
Israel's Second Authority for Television and Radio has initiated alleged violation proceedings against Channel 12 following a controversial statement by news presenter and analyst Dana Weiss. The incident occurred during the program "Friday Studio," where Weiss harshly criticized the rabbis of Hesder yeshivas opposing the integration of female soldiers into the armored corps. Weiss referred to the rabbis as "sex-obsessed" and accused them of reducing women solely to their sexual organs rather than recognizing them as whole individuals.
In an official letter to Channel 12's content vice president, Guy Sodri, Vered Ezra, head of the television division at the Second Authority, stated that Weiss's remarks severely offend good taste, human dignity, and public sentiment. Channel 12 now has seven days to submit a written response, which will serve as a hearing before potential financial penalties and heavy fines are imposed on the channel.
This development highlights tensions within Israeli society regarding gender roles in the military and the boundaries of public discourse in media. The case is ongoing, with the authority's decision pending the channel's reply.
