B’Tselem CEO Files Complaint Against Dana Weiss Over Offensive Remarks About Rabbis

Shai Glick, CEO of the organization B’Tselem, filed a formal complaint with the Public Complaints Commissioner of the Second Authority for Television and Radio, David Regev, against senior Channel 12 news analyst Dana Weiss. The complaint concerns Weiss’s remarks during a broadcast discussing women’s military service and rabbinic positions on the issue. Glick accused Weiss of making offensive statements toward rabbis in Israel, describing those opposing women’s service in armored units as "brainwashed".

Glick argued that Weiss’s language crossed the line from legitimate criticism into inappropriate and harmful rhetoric, damaging public discourse and disrespecting religious and traditional communities. He emphasized that the criticism unfairly generalized rabbis from various streams, including moderate and liberal ones, who share halachic positions on women’s military service in certain IDF units. The complaint states that Weiss’s portrayal undermines public trust and harms the feelings of hundreds of thousands of religious and traditional citizens who view rabbis as spiritual leaders.

In his letter, Glick called on the Second Authority to investigate the matter with Channel 12, demand a public clarification and apology from Weiss, and consider taking further action against the channel. He described the remarks as crossing a red line in media discourse.
