Reserve Lt. Col. Shayke Megiddo Dies After Contracting Severe Bacterial Infection During IDF Service

Reserve Lieutenant Colonel Shayke Megiddo, 55, a resident of the West Bank settlement Psagot, passed away after contracting a severe bacterial infection during his reserve military service. Megiddo was hospitalized last week following the infection, but his condition deteriorated until his death. He was laid to rest on Friday at the local cemetery in Psagot.

Throughout his military career, Megiddo served in key intelligence roles within field units, both in active duty and reserves, with increased involvement since the outbreak of Operation Iron Swords. He contributed to maneuvering units across various fronts, from the Gaza Division in the south to the 36th Division in the north, where he served in his final days. In civilian life, he worked in intelligence for the Israel Prison Service.

Megiddo was also deeply involved in community service in Psagot and the Binyamin Regional Council, founding a charitable initiative that distributed dozens of food packages weekly to needy families. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he held a managerial role in the council's emergency response system. His family described him as a devoted family man and a person of kindness and generosity, dedicated to the Land of Israel.

The Binyamin Regional Council praised his contributions to emergency management and community welfare. His passing is mourned by family, friends, and colleagues who remember him as a man of compassion and commitment.
