Beitar Jerusalem Signs Forward Sean Weisman to Boost Title Hopes
Beitar Jerusalem announced the signing of forward Sean Weisman on Friday, securing the Israeli striker on a two-year contract with an option for a third. Weisman, 30, returns to Israel after seven seasons in Europe, where he played for clubs including Wolfsburg, Real Valladolid, Granada, Salernitana, and Blau-Weiß Linz. He is expected to earn around 330,000 euros in his first season, with additional bonuses tied to winning the league, the cup, and European competition progress.
Weisman, who grew up in Maccabi Haifa's youth system and has 33 senior national team caps, will join Beitar's training camp in Pravets, Bulgaria, early next week. Beitar recently drew 2-2 in a friendly against Bulgarian side Botev Vratsa and will face Arda Kardzhali in another warm-up match on Tuesday.
Since Almog Cohen became Beitar's coach, the club identified the striker and defensive midfield positions as priorities. The opportunity to sign Weisman, who expressed willingness to return to Israel, prompted the club to act decisively. A club source noted that beyond financial terms, Weisman sought to join a top Israeli club with ambitions for titles and a forward-looking vision.
Weisman was impressed by Beitar's recent developments, including upgraded training facilities, enhanced professionalism in physical and medical support, and overall club infrastructure improvements. Conversations with coach Cohen and senior players like Omer Atzili and Yarden Shua convinced him he would be a key player and among the highest earners.
With Weisman joining a frontline that includes Atzili, Shua, Timo Mozy, Samuel Kalu, and Eugene Ansah, Beitar has significantly strengthened its attack. The club now aims to sign a foreign defensive midfielder to complete the squad ahead of their Conference League second qualifying round matches against AEK Larnaca later this month.
