Israeli Defense Ministry to Receive Immediate 15 Billion Shekel Budget Boost Amid Ongoing Conflicts

The Israeli defense establishment is set to receive an immediate budget increase of 15 billion shekels, following recent agreements mediated by the National Security Council between the Ministry of Finance and the defense sector. This amount is part of a previously requested 40 billion shekels needed due to extended military operations across multiple fronts, including confrontations with Iran and prolonged fighting in Lebanon.

The agreement includes establishing a joint oversight mechanism allowing the Finance Ministry to monitor defense expenditures closely. Officials indicate that this budget adjustment will not cause the 2026 state budget to be exceeded, nor will it increase the deficit or lead to tax hikes or cuts in public services.

The remaining 25 billion shekels of the initially requested sum may be disbursed later in the year in phases, depending on budget execution rates and further agreements between the Finance and Defense Ministries. The defense sector cites extraordinary expenses related to extensive reserve mobilization, replenishing munitions and interceptors, and restoring the operational readiness of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Funds will be allocated to strengthen land, air, and naval capabilities and complete stockpiles.
