Revital Smotrich Shares Emotional Moment After Son's Serious Injury in Lebanon

Revital Smotrich, wife of Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, recounted the harrowing experience following the severe injury of their son, Benaya, during military activity in southern Lebanon. Initially, the family was told the injury was minor, and they considered transferring him to a hospital in Jerusalem to be closer. However, it later became clear that his condition was serious, and the transfer was no longer possible.

Smotrich revealed that her son had called her after being injured because he knew his father would not answer unknown numbers, but she missed the call. As Shabbat approached, she and her husband faced a difficult decision: whether to travel to the hospital, which would mean staying there through Shabbat without their other children, or remain with their children at the hotel, who were frightened and worried about their brother.

They ultimately chose to stay with their children during Shabbat, despite the pain and difficulty of the decision. Smotrich described this choice as a "Solomon's judgment" for a mother, emphasizing the constant hard decisions mothers must make. She called this experience emblematic of their lives, highlighting the emotional struggle behind the logical choice to stay together as a family during the crisis.
