Rishon Holmes Draws EuroLeague Interest Amid Maccabi Tel Aviv Talks
Maccabi Tel Aviv is actively working on assembling its roster for the 2026/2027 season, with the center position (number 5) being a key focus. Rishon Holmes, a primary candidate for this role, is currently in advanced negotiations with Maccabi. However, Serbian outlet Mundo reports that Red Star Belgrade is also pursuing Holmes, who has been on their radar for several weeks. Following the appointment of coach Ivon Navarro, Red Star is expected to accelerate their efforts quietly behind the scenes.
Holmes, 32 years old and 2.06 meters tall, signed a two-year contract last summer with Panathinaikos, marking his first European season after a notable NBA career. He was expected to be a leading figure for the Greek club, earning $2.5 million annually. During the season, Holmes publicly clashed with Panathinaikos coach Ergin Ataman, who criticized him and other big men for poor effort and movement. This conflict culminated in Holmes being released by the club in late March.
Since becoming a free agent, Holmes has not joined any team and has remained inactive in recent months. His averages with Panathinaikos were 7.9 points and 4.3 rebounds over 19 games. Maccabi Tel Aviv hopes to finalize a deal with Holmes, but the interest from Red Star Belgrade adds competition for his signature as the EuroLeague season approaches.
