Average Israeli Salaries Rise Nearly 900 Shekels in May Amid Employment Growth
The Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics reported a significant increase in the average gross salary of Israeli employees in May 2026, reaching 14,277 shekels. This represents a rise of 898 shekels or 6.7% compared to May of the previous year. Alongside the salary growth, overall employment also improved, with the number of salaried jobs rising to 4.154 million in May, marking a 2.3% increase from April and a modest 0.2% growth year-over-year.
The bureau also released finalized data for April 2026, showing a slightly higher average salary of 14,374 shekels, which is 522 shekels (3.8%) more than April 2025. These figures indicate a steady upward trend in nominal wages and purchasing power despite seasonal fluctuations and economic challenges.
The high-tech sector continues to lead in salary levels and employment growth. In April 2026, the average gross salary in the high-tech industry reached 34,870 shekels, up 2,074 shekels or 6.3% from the previous year. Employment in high-tech also expanded, with 398,600 salaried positions in April, reflecting a 0.7% increase from March and a 0.9% rise compared to April 2025.
