Supermarket Worker Survives Machete Attack During Armed Robbery in Israel
A supermarket employee at a City Market branch in Israel endured a violent armed robbery when a thief threatened him with a large machete and attempted to stab him in the abdomen. The worker, identified only as A, recounted the terrifying moment in an interview with HaOlam HaBoker, describing how the attacker suddenly drew the knife and tried to stab him. Fortunately, the blade folded upon impact, preventing a more serious injury. Despite feeling as if he was going to die, A managed to escape and took quick action by leading other customers out of the store and locking the assailant inside using a water barrier to block the door.
Although the physical danger ended with the capture of the robber, A's struggle continued due to severe psychological trauma. His lawyer, Israel Klopaska, explained that the main damage is invisible but deeply affecting, noting that A has had difficulty sleeping, managing only three nights of rest and currently receiving assistance to cope. Shockingly, instead of receiving support from his employer, A was removed from the workplace WhatsApp group and summoned to a disciplinary hearing. When asked if he believed this was a prelude to dismissal, he responded firmly that he did.
City Market responded by emphasizing that the safety and security of its employees and customers is a top priority. The company stated it will continue to act responsibly and strengthen all necessary measures to ensure a safe working and shopping environment across its branches.
