Parents of Fallen IDF Commander Praise Youth for Upholding Israel’s Future

At the graduation ceremony of the Israeli youth leadership course (Mashatzim) held at Mount Herzl, Ilan and Clara Hamami, parents of the late Colonel Asaf Hamami, addressed the young participants. Asaf Hamami, who commanded the Southern Brigade, was killed on October 7 during the conflict; his body was initially abducted to Gaza and returned to Israel in November. The Hamamis praised the youths’ dedication to the values of love for the land and continuity of the nation, stating, "Thanks to you, we have continuity in the country."

Clara Hamami expressed her emotion at seeing the young generation choosing to spend their free time learning about Israel’s land, history, and values. She announced plans to establish a preparatory program in September 2027 to continue Asaf’s legacy and values. She emphasized Asaf’s deep connection to the land and said the youths’ commitment to this path gives the family hope.

Ilan Hamami shared that he and his wife raised their children with three core values: being good people, believing in themselves, and loving Israel. He recounted Asaf’s role in the October 7 battle alongside his command post team members, all of whom fell and were captured. Ilan expressed unwavering faith that all captives, including Asaf, would return, grounded in his belief in the eternal continuity of the Jewish people. He urged the youth to work toward an inclusive, listening, and giving society, stressing that "nothing matters except our human capital." He concluded by calling the young generation the "continuing generation" that will sustain Israel forever.
