Mango Offers Sweet, Low-Calorie Health Benefits Including Disease Prevention
Mango, a juicy and colorful summer fruit, is not only delicious but also fits well into a diet despite its sweet taste. Its vibrant orange color comes from beta-carotene, an important antioxidant that supports health and gives the fruit its hue. Contrary to common assumptions, the sweetness of mango does not necessarily indicate high sugar or calorie content, making it suitable for weight-conscious individuals.
The antioxidants in mango help protect the body against cancer and other serious diseases. Beta-carotene is also a key source of vitamin A, essential for vision, immune system function, skin health, and proper growth. Mango is rich in vitamins and minerals such as folic acid, niacin, magnesium, calcium, potassium, zinc, and vitamin C, with 100 grams providing about half the recommended daily intake of vitamin C.
Mango contains dietary fiber, including pectin, which aids digestion, promotes intestinal health, and helps lower cholesterol levels. Additionally, alpha-carotene in mango supports healthy skin and hair, while potassium and folic acid contribute to maintaining proper heart function. With only about 65 calories per 100 grams, mango is an ideal sweet and refreshing healthy snack for hot summer days.
