Hamas Smuggles Dozens of Drones Into Gaza Amid Israeli Security Concerns

Israeli security officials are increasingly concerned about ongoing drone smuggling attempts into the Gaza Strip. According to Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) data reported by Galei Tzahal, 28 drones have successfully crossed into Gaza since the beginning of the year. These smuggling operations have occurred over recent months via two main routes: some drones are brought in from Egypt, while others are flown from Israeli territory into Gaza.

The IDF has intensified efforts to intercept and neutralize these drones, but dozens have still reached their destination. Security sources estimate that most of the drones that penetrated Gaza ended up in Hamas hands. While it is unclear what payloads these drones carried, the drones themselves are considered valuable operational assets that could be used in future terrorist activities.

The report also highlights that Hamas is learning from Hezbollah’s use of explosive drones in Lebanon and is adapting those lessons for Gaza, raising further security concerns. Since the start of the year, Israeli forces have thwarted 89 drone smuggling attempts, totaling 117 attempts in the past six months. The IDF states that all intercepted drones so far were carrying drugs, but acknowledges that many drones have gone undetected and the actual number of smuggling attempts could be higher.
