Police Block Ultra-Orthodox Protest Near Police Chief's Home, Demonstrators Redirect to Military Judge's Residence
On Tuesday evening, Israeli police prevented an ultra-Orthodox protest planned near Police Commissioner Danni Levi's home in Zikhron Yaakov. Authorities set up roadblocks at all city entrances, inspecting vehicles until they located a protesters' minibus, which was then barred from entering. Commissioner Levi was seen moving among officers at the checkpoints. Protesters reported that one minibus changed course and proceeded to the home of a military judge in Or Akiva, where they are currently gathering.
Earlier that evening, the "Black Flag" Jerusalem faction's alert line reported an attempted arrest of a draft-dodging ultra-Orthodox man on the access road to the Biblical Zoo in Jerusalem. They called for large numbers of protesters to come to the scene. Following the arrival of the crowd, the draft-dodger was released and not handed over to the military police.
Separately, the Vizhnitz Hasidic community plans to hold a quiet protest in the form of a prayer rally tomorrow in front of Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara's residence, with efforts underway to secure official approval for the event.
