Thousands Celebrate 40 Years of Yechaveh Da’at Torah Study Center in Jerusalem
Thousands of rabbis, students, alumni, and public figures gathered at the Gamus Hall in Jerusalem to mark the 40th anniversary of the Yechaveh Da’at study center. The event featured a moving exhibition tracing the center’s journey from a modest study hall on Mishkalov Street to a global Torah powerhouse producing rabbis, judges, and teachers across Israel and worldwide. Video clips, testimonies from students and graduates, and speeches highlighted the institution’s four decades of dedication to Torah study and leadership.
Chief Rabbi David Yosef, who spoke at the event, shared memories of the center’s early days and his father, the late Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, zt”l, who was deeply involved in the center’s activities, regularly visiting, testing students, and teaching. Rabbi David Yosef called on attendees to continue spreading Torah teachings, emphasizing the event as a moment of spiritual strengthening. He revealed that over 600 students currently study in Yechaveh Da’at’s evening kollels nationwide, with plans to double this number soon.
Rabbi Erez Elharar, head of a kollel and rabbi of Hod Hasharon, attributed the center’s success to selfless dedication, noting that the late Rabbi Ovadia Yosef’s devotion to the Jewish people and Torah was the foundation of its achievements. Rabbi Elharar stressed that Yechaveh Da’at’s ongoing commitment to Torah study and community leadership is a daily, tireless effort.
Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, the current head of the center and son of its founder, emotionally addressed the crowd, calling the attendees “all your children” and highlighting the revolutionary impact of the center. He emphasized the mission to cultivate the next generation of rabbis and teachers, aiming to produce well-rounded leaders who will continue to spread Torah knowledge beyond the center itself. Rabbi Yosef reiterated his father’s teaching that Torah should be everywhere, adding that Yechaveh Da’at must also be present everywhere.
The celebration concluded on a high note with thousands of alumni from Israel and abroad, symbolizing four decades of continuous Torah study and the center’s vision to expand its educational and judicial influence in the years ahead. Over 40 years, Yechaveh Da’at has produced dozens of serving judges, community rabbis, kollel heads, and yeshiva leaders who continue to lead and teach in Israel and the diaspora.
