Jerusalem's Yechaveh Da'at Celebrates 40 Years of Torah Leadership Worldwide
Thousands of rabbis, scholars, alumni, and public figures gathered in Jerusalem to mark the 40th anniversary of the Yechaveh Da'at Beit Midrash. The event featured a moving exhibition tracing the institution's journey from a modest study hall on Mishkalov Street to a global Torah powerhouse producing rabbis, judges, and teachers across Israel and the diaspora. The evening included video clips, testimonials from students and graduates, and speeches reflecting on the Beit Midrash's four decades of growth and impact.
Chief Rabbi of Israel, Rabbi David Yosef, shared personal memories of the institution's early days and his father, the late Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, who was deeply involved in teaching and examining students there. Rabbi David Yosef called on attendees to continue spreading Torah teachings, emphasizing the event as a source of spiritual strengthening. He revealed that over 600 scholars currently study in Yechaveh Da'at's evening kollels nationwide, with plans to double this number soon.
Among the speakers was Rabbi Erez Elharar, head of a kollel and rabbi of Hod Hasharon, who attributed the Beit Midrash's success to "self-sacrifice," highlighting Rabbi Ovadia Yosef's dedication to the Jewish people and Torah. He described Yechaveh Da'at as a story of daily devotion over 40 years, driven not by comfort or honor but by relentless efforts to sanctify God's name.
Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, head of the Beit Midrash and son of the late Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, emotionally addressed the audience, calling them "all your children" and praising the transformative impact of his father's legacy. He stressed the institution's mission to cultivate future generations of rabbis and teachers who will serve as full vessels to impart Torah to others. Rabbi Ovadia Yosef reiterated his father's teaching that Torah must be everywhere, adding that Yechaveh Da'at itself must expand its presence globally.
The celebration concluded on a high note with thousands of alumni from Israel and abroad, symbolizing four decades of continuous Torah study and the Beit Midrash's vision to further develop its educational and judicial leadership in the years ahead. Over its 40 years, Yechaveh Da'at has produced dozens of serving judges, community rabbis, kollel heads, and yeshiva leaders who continue to disseminate Torah and lead communities worldwide.
