ZAKA Leaders Hold Strategic Meeting with Tel Aviv Police Command to Enhance Emergency Cooperation
A senior delegation from ZAKA, led by CEO Rabbi Tzvi Chassid, recently met with the top command of the Tel Aviv Central Police Station to strengthen operational coordination between emergency and law enforcement agencies in central Israel. The meeting included Police Commander Rotem Vaskar, his deputy Senior Superintendent Avi Ofer, and other senior officers, alongside ZAKA's operational officers and volunteers.
The discussions focused on refining joint work procedures during routine and emergency situations, improving field cooperation, and expressing deep appreciation for the dedicated efforts of ZAKA's volunteers, many of whom are from the Haredi community. Rabbi Chassid provided a comprehensive overview of ZAKA's deployment, volunteer readiness, and ongoing activities throughout the year, emphasizing the unique challenges faced in Tel Aviv.
Both sides addressed areas needing improvement to bridge logistical and operational gaps, aiming to enhance response times and synchronize efforts across various incident scenes. Rabbi Chassid highlighted the essential, trust-based relationship between ZAKA volunteers and police officers, calling it a cornerstone for successful field operations that respect the dignity of the deceased.
Senior police officers echoed this sentiment, with Logistics Officer Chief Inspector Nati Yakuti affirming his open-door policy for ZAKA, and Investigations Officer Chief Inspector Yuval Rom praising the volunteers' presence as a source of security and professionalism. District Rabbi Chief Inspector Eliyahu Kav noted ZAKA's resilience and critical support to police during sensitive events.
The meeting concluded with Commander Vaskar expressing heartfelt gratitude to ZAKA volunteers for their broad assistance across multiple police units. He also proposed practical ideas to further streamline joint activities, aiming to establish the ZAKA-police partnership as a model of urban emergency cooperation and professionalism.
