Israel Allows Over 100 Gaza Residents to Exit for Medical Care Despite Hamas Delays
The Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) announced that Israel permitted more than 100 residents of the Gaza Strip to exit through the Kerem Shalom crossing yesterday to receive medical treatment in a third country. However, Hamas militants delayed their passage for over an hour at a checkpoint they had established, a move condemned by the United Nations.
Since the start of the war, Israel has allowed approximately 50,000 Gaza residents, mostly patients and their companions, to leave for third countries for medical care. Following the ceasefire, the Rafah crossing has remained operational, with about 4,100 people entering Gaza and 4,400 exiting through it so far.
This facilitation of movement underscores ongoing humanitarian efforts amid the conflict, despite obstacles imposed by Hamas. The situation at the crossings remains critical for residents seeking urgent medical treatment outside Gaza.
