Yeshiva Students Block Geha Road After Bnei Brak Protest Against Military Detentions
Following a large protest in Bnei Brak on Monday evening, several yeshiva students blocked Geha Road, disrupting traffic despite explicit instructions not to do so. The protest, which took place along Eshkol Abraham and Rabbi Rabinov streets, was organized to oppose the arrest and military imprisonment of yeshiva students. The event was led by the Chief Rabbi of Israel, Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, alongside prominent Torah scholars, heads of yeshivas, and community leaders.
During the rally, Rabbi Shabtai Levi, the rabbi of the Ramat Aharon neighborhood and head of the Halichot Moshe institutions, clearly stated that while there should be a strong and bitter outcry, blocking roads or engaging in actions contrary to the spirit of the Torah was forbidden. Nevertheless, after the protest concluded, some yeshiva students defied this directive and blocked Geha Road.
The protest reflected deep community concerns over the military's handling of yeshiva students, highlighting tensions between religious authorities and state enforcement. The incident underscores ongoing debates about appropriate forms of protest within the religious community in Israel.
