Jerusalem’s Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital Plans Major Expansion to Double Capacity
The National Infrastructure Committee has announced the preparation of a national infrastructure plan to significantly expand Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem. The plan aims to nearly double the hospital’s inpatient capacity from about 1,000 beds to approximately 2,400, addressing the healthcare needs of Jerusalem and its surrounding areas for the coming decades.
The expansion will involve extensive construction around the existing campus and vertical building to maintain a compact medical campus and allow ongoing hospital operations during the works. The plan includes underground spaces for logistical infrastructure, operational systems, and protected areas. The current helicopter landing pad will be relocated to a new site.
New facilities will include an oncology building, a research center, a separate surgical department building apart from internal medicine, and dormitories for students and staff in collaboration with the Hebrew University. The committee agreed to split the plan, advancing the oncology hospital and research center project on a faster track alongside the overall expansion.
This initiative follows a program approved by the Ministry of Health aligned with the national master plan targets for 2050. Currently, the project is in the planning stage, with further design, review, and approval processes required before construction begins.
