A new rehabilitation hospital is set to be built in Tel Aviv’s Sde Dov district as demand for rehab care surges because of the war, an aging population, and a shortage of beds. The project is slated to become Israel’s largest rehabilitation hospital, with 540 inpatient beds, advanced treatment units, and new technologies. It is expected to open in 2032.
The hospital will be developed by the Reuth Association together with Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality and the Tel Aviv Foundation. The project budget is about 1.1 billion shekels, and the Husidman family has contributed about 200 million shekels. In recognition of that donation, the facility will be named the Husidman Rehabilitation Hospital.
Planned departments include neurological, orthopedic, and geriatric rehabilitation, as well as dedicated care for trauma and post-trauma patients. The complex will also include physiotherapy and occupational therapy units, day hospitalization services, a hydrotherapy pool, medical research and development centers, and multidisciplinary care tracks intended to support patients from hospitalization through return to the community.
Health officials say the new center should ease existing congestion, shorten waiting times for rehabilitation, and expand access to advanced care nationwide. The hospital is also expected to feature robotic gait and movement rehabilitation systems, virtual reality platforms for cognitive and motor training, artificial intelligence tools for monitoring progress, and tele-rehabilitation services. Experts quoted in the article say these technologies could improve outcomes, shorten hospital stays, and increase patients’ independence after discharge.
