Shin Bet Chief Reevaluates Poland Missions and Proposes Heritage Tour in Gaza Border Communities
Shin Bet Chief David Zini is currently reviewing the agency's heritage and values missions, including the continuation of delegations to Poland. According to a report by Channel 12, Zini has raised concerns about the current format of these trips, emphasizing that "values are not absorbed on foreign soil." He advocates exploring alternative methods to instill the organization's values, heritage, and identity among its personnel.
The internal discussions are part of a broader evaluation of how the Shin Bet transmits its legacy and principles. As part of this initiative, Zini has instructed the examination of establishing an Israeli heritage tour in communities surrounding the Gaza Strip, known as the Gaza envelope. This proposed "corrective journey" aims to convey lessons and remembrance related to the events of October 7, described by Zini as "the bitter and hasty day when we failed to fulfill our mission."
The Shin Bet clarified that Zini places great importance on Holocaust remembrance, noting his personal involvement in leading numerous missions to Poland over the years. Recently, the agency held a study day at Yad Vashem and conducted various activities related to Holocaust memory within its units.
The decision on sending delegations to Poland is currently under consideration, weighing multiple ethical factors. The agency also expressed regret over biased leaks and accusations that harm the open internal discourse maintained over the years.
