IDF Reserve Battalion 967 Leads Intensive Operations in Nablus Amid Fifth Combat Cycle
Lieutenant Colonel (Res.) N, commander of the IDF Reserve Battalion 967 of the Shomron Brigade, detailed the battalion's extensive operational experience since the outbreak of the current conflict. Over 400 days of reserve duty have transformed Battalion 967 into one of the most seasoned and effective units operating in the Nablus area. Currently engaged in their fifth combat cycle, the battalion recently completed a large-scale brigade operation within Nablus city, which involved arresting wanted suspects and severely disrupting local terror infrastructure.
Lt. Col. N emphasized the battalion's deep familiarity with the terrain, having operated continuously in the area for 22 years. This intimate knowledge of Nablus's alleys and surrounding refugee camps has been a force multiplier, enabling the battalion to undertake missions previously reserved for elite regular units. The prolonged fighting has led to a significant decline in violence and terror activity in the city, with daily arrests, weapons searches, and thwarting of attacks becoming routine. Lt. Col. N noted that the security situation has improved to the point where even visitors can tour the city without facing stone-throwing incidents.
The battalion maintains full freedom of movement and adopts a proactive offensive posture, operating nightly to surprise adversaries rather than react to them. Despite the natural fatigue from extended deployments, the unit has sustained an impressive 85 percent turnout rate for the current combat cycle. To support soldiers’ well-being, Lt. Col. N prioritizes maintaining connections to civilian life by providing workspaces and internet access at outposts, helping soldiers balance military duties with family and employment.
Ultimately, the battalion’s mission is to ensure the safety and security of residents traveling local roads and to protect their homes. As a local resident himself, Lt. Col. N is committed to delivering tangible security improvements for the community amid ongoing conflict.
