Young Couple’s Wedding Gift Money Stolen Days After Ceremony in Afula
Orya and Yair, a young couple from Afula, experienced a joyous wedding day that quickly turned into distress when their home was burglarized just days after the event. While walking to the chuppah surrounded by loved ones and fireworks, they dreamed of a hopeful future together. However, their dream was shattered when they discovered that all the cash gifts from their wedding, approximately 55,000 shekels, were stolen from their home. This theft not only caused financial loss but also deeply affected their sense of security and innocence.
Orya first noticed the break-in upon returning home, finding a broken door and the money missing, which had been saved to pay final wedding suppliers and start their new life. Yair was away at his military base at the time. The couple filed a police report, leading to the arrest of a 23-year-old suspect from Beit Shean. Despite this, Orya and Yair fear the burglary was a premeditated crime linked to their wedding day.
Their suspicion is supported by eyewitness accounts from friends who noticed two unfamiliar individuals at the wedding asking unusual questions. Yair shared that these strangers’ presence and inquiries suggest the thieves may have targeted the couple in advance, gathering information and waiting for the right moment to steal the money intended to support their new life together.
