Senior Israeli Education Inspector Rabbi Shlomo Binyamin Schreiber Passes Away at 87
Rabbi Shlomo Binyamin Schreiber, a former senior inspector at the Israeli Ministry of Education, passed away on the Sabbath at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem at the age of 87. Born in Galicia on December 23, 1928, to Rabbi Ephraim Schreiber and his wife Devorah, he arrived in Israel as an orphan and was raised by Rabbi Aharon Cohen, head of the Hebron Yeshiva, who adopted him as a son. He married the daughter of Rabbi Yaakov Zalman Korlansky, a prominent Hasidic figure from the Gur dynasty, and was closely connected to the Gur Rebbe, the "Beit Yisrael."
Throughout his career, Rabbi Schreiber served as a senior education inspector, providing significant support to yeshiva and seminary principals, who deeply appreciated his dedication and steadfastness. After retiring, he devoted many hours to Torah study. In his final period, due to declining health, he prayed at the home of Rabbi Shmuel Mintzer, a lecturer at the Maayan HaTalmud Yeshiva, who had recently passed away. Rabbi Schreiber is survived by his sons, Rabbis Ephraim, Aharon, and Israel Schreiber, and his daughter Mrs. Grunwald. His funeral took place early Sunday morning from the Shamgar Funeral Home in Jerusalem to Har HaMenuchot cemetery. May his soul be bound in the bond of life.
