Report: Oman Weighs Passage Fees in the Strait of Hormuz
Oman has told European officials that there is no way to return to the prewar status quo in the Strait of Hormuz, and that some fees may be charged to passing ships, Bloomberg reported citing people involved in the matter.
According to the report, Omani officials stressed that the country will always comply with international maritime law. At the same time, they said possible charges could apply to services such as cleaning pollution in the strait or helping vessels navigate through it.
It was not immediately clear whether Oman indicated that any such fees would be mandatory. The report did not specify when any decision could be announced or implemented.
