Slovakia’s Tatra Mountains Get Direct Summer Flights From Israel
Israelis will soon be able to reach Slovakia’s Tatra Mountains directly from Ben Gurion Airport. Starting June 30, Overseas will launch an exclusive weekly flight from Tel Aviv to Poprad-Tatry Airport, located in the heart of the mountain range. The flight will take about 3.5 hours and is meant to avoid long transfers from distant airports.
The new route will operate on Tuesdays and will complement the airline’s existing service to Bratislava, which runs on Sundays and Thursdays. Together, the two destinations are intended to make it easier to plan trips across Slovakia and southern Poland, with the option of arriving in the mountains and returning from the capital.
The Tatras, on the Slovakia-Poland border, are the highest and most dramatic part of the Carpathians. They are known for sharp peaks, clear glacial lakes, thick forests and picturesque resort towns. In summer, the area is promoted as a base for hiking, cycling, adventure activities, water parks and easier family-friendly trails. In winter, it becomes a ski destination.
The article also highlights the region’s relatively low prices compared with similar Western European destinations. Launch fares for flights alone will start at $399, including full luggage. Overseas will also offer family “fly and drive” packages for a couple and two children starting at 999 euros per person, with direct flights, a rental car for a week, and seven nights in selected mountain-area hotels.
