A new “Sofashavua” poll, conducted for Yaakov Bardugo’s program and published Thursday, paints a strongly left-leaning profile of support for Gadi Eisenkot and raises questions about his ability to attract right-wing voters. The survey found that 72% of Eisenkot supporters want him to form a government backed by Arab parties, while 15% oppose that idea and 13% are undecided.
On the diplomatic issue, 44% of his backers said Eisenkot should agree to a Palestinian state, compared with 42% who oppose that position and 14% who have not decided. The poll also describes his average supporter as older, secular, and centered in the country’s main metropolitan area.
According to the poll, 78% of Eisenkot supporters are age 55 or older, 69% identify as secular, and 59% live in the central region and the Sharon. The survey also found that 84% of his supporters say his Mizrahi background is not a factor in their support, while 16% say it is.
The poll asked who is better placed to bring in votes from the right. Forty-seven percent chose Eisenkot, 8% chose Naftali Bennett, 32% said both equally, and 13% said neither can do it. The article said that given the strong support among Eisenkot voters for an Arab-backed government, winning genuine right-wing voters may be difficult.
