Actor Asaf Hertz, who has become religiously observant, announced on Thursday that he and his wife, Hadar, have become parents for the first time, nearly three years after their wedding. He wrote, “Yosef, my son, 2 Tammuz. A psalm of thanks.” The birth was shared on his Instagram account.
Hadar later explained in a lengthy Instagram post why they chose the name Yosef. She said Yosef represents seeing the good, describing him as a righteous figure who “sees God in everything” and understands that he is protected. She said they bless their son to be among “the seed of Yosef the righteous,” to have a good eye and to bring God into every place.
She also used the post to offer a prayer for others hoping to have children, writing that she hopes everyone longing for “the foundation and building of their own” will soon see open good. She said, “If our mouths were full of song like the sea, we still could not thank You enough,” and added that she prays this year will bring good news to everyone.
At the end of her message, she thanked God as “the only partner,” and referred to Asaf as “Asaf Yaakov the man.” Responses from followers quickly poured in, including blessings that they raise the child “to Torah, chuppah and good deeds.” The couple met through a shidduch and married in 2023 at Terminal Hall in Petah Tikva, about seven months after they first met. Hertz’s spiritual journey began after a long search, leading him to Chabad, visits to 770 in Brooklyn, Torah study, and a complete lifestyle change.
