How do I go on without my heart?” In a heartbreaking post that drew thousands of views, he vowed to continue working to preserve her memory. According to him, the main message that accompanied his wife throughout the journey was, “Choose life and do good.”
Yam Avitan, the husband of the late Niv Chaya, who battled cancer and died, shared a heartbreaking post on social media in which he revealed some of his pain: “How do I continue from here without my heart? How did I go from a single man to a widower because of you in three years, my dear wife? Guide me, give me a sign. You are too pure and good for this world.”
He then promised to keep working to commemorate Niv’s memory: “I will make sure that the lonely people in the world who do not know the warrior you are and your path will know and draw strength from it.” According to him, the main message that accompanied his wife through the difficult journey was, “Choose life and do good.”
The reactions online were not long in coming, and hundreds consoled the grieving husband: “We are here beside you every hour, minute and second, hugging you and not letting you fall. Nivi would want you to be happy,” “You were and will always remain the best husband there is,” “You will always remain a dream couple! The love you had and that devotion does not exist in this world! Be strong,” “You taught all of the people of Israel a powerful lesson that we will never forget.”
As mentioned, after a long and stubborn battle, Niv Chaya Avitan, who was diagnosed in May 2023 with advanced cervical cancer, died. The late Niv underwent a series of difficult treatments, radiation and complex surgeries in Israel and the United States, which caused severe damage to her young body. Days before her death, she got to fulfill her wish when Rabbi Yigal Cohen came to bless her for recovery.
In the first post he published after the disease was discovered, Yam shared his hope: “Unfortunately, a short time after we met, they discovered her cancer, and I am with her every step of the way, hand in hand, I will do everything to win this cursed disease with her.” And so it was. Yam visited graves of righteous people, came to receive blessings from rabbis, and above all never stopped praying and believing that better days would come.
After receiving the hardest news of all, he eulogized her in pain: “My Niv Chaya, my dear wife, has returned her soul to the Creator. Blessed is the True Judge.”
A whole country shared in the family’s deep sorrow. Thousands of citizens, cultural figures and rabbis eulogized her: “May you never know sorrow again,” “May God comfort you, Yam, you were everything to her,” “My heart is burning.”
“An angel of God”: Niv Chaya Avitan died at the age of 29.
