Russell Crowe returns to the big screen on July 2 with “Exit the Game,” an action-comedy-crime film that will be released in Israeli cinemas by United King Films. The movie also stars Luke Evans, Aaron Paul, Nina Dobrev and Teresa Palmer, and runs 101 minutes. It was produced in the United States and will screen in English with Hebrew subtitles.
At the center is Manco Kapak, played by Crowe, a shady nightclub owner who wants to sell his business and retire with his younger partner. His plan falls apart after he is robbed at gunpoint and cartel figures begin pressuring him to repay debts. A mysterious buyer and a pair of criminals in the mold of Bonnie and Clyde then join the chaos, trying to seize whatever is left.
Manco is forced to rely on every trick he has learned over the years if he wants to survive and escape the mess unharmed. The film is directed and written by Derrick Borte, who co-wrote the screenplay with Daniel Forte.
“Exit the Game” is based on the novel “Strip” by Thomas Perry, the author whose work also inspired the TV series “The Old Man.” The project also marks another collaboration between Crowe and Borte after their earlier film “Unhinged.” According to the production materials, Crowe recommended Borte for the directing job, and Borte later joined the project as screenwriter.
