Emmanuel Sharpe, the Israeli guard, was selected overnight in the NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings with the 45th pick, and is expected to play in the NBA next season. The pick drew praise from American commentators, who said Sharpe is ready to contribute immediately.
Fran Fraschilla of ESPN said Sharpe was “part of Houston’s turnaround” and praised his shooting, defense and toughness, calling him a player who is already ready for an NBA training camp. Nick Agar-Johnson, editor at No Ceilings, called it “a good pick,” saying Sharpe is a serious defender, a good shooter and relentless, and “can help this team right now.”
NBADraft.Net gave Sacramento’s selection a grade of B-minus. The site wrote that the Kings added one of the best shooters in the league, adding that while he is not an elite athlete, his shot gives him a chance to remain a meaningful player.
The Kings are in a rebuilding phase after selecting Darius Acuff at No. 7 and guard Malik Thomas at No. 34. The team also has Zach LaVine and Malik Monk under contract for one more season. Russell Westbrook’s contract has expired, but he may stay, while DeMar DeRozan is not guaranteed for next season and could be waived.
