Emmanouel Sharp was selected by the Sacramento Kings with the 45th pick in the NBA Draft overnight, between Wednesday and Thursday, and is expected to play in the NBA in the coming season. The Israeli guard’s selection drew strong praise from American analysts, who described him as ready for immediate action.
ESPN’s Fran Fraschilla said Sharp “was part of the change in Houston” and added that his shooting, defense and toughness make him a player who is ready for an NBA training camp right now. Nick Agar-Johnson, editor of No Ceilings, called it “a good pick,” saying Sharp is a serious defender, a good shooter and relentless, and that he can help the team immediately.
NBADraft.Net gave the selection a B- grade, writing that Sacramento added one of the best shooters in the league. The site noted that Sharp is not an exceptional athlete, but said his shooting gives him a chance to remain a meaningful player.
Sacramento is in the middle of a rebuild, having taken Darius Acuff at No. 7 and guard Malik Thomas at No. 34. The roster also includes Zach LaVine and Malik Monk, both under contract for one more year. Russell Westbrook’s deal has expired but he could stay, while DeMar DeRozan’s contract for next season is not guaranteed and he could be waived.
