Emmanuel Sharp, the Israeli-born son of Derek Sharp, was selected in the second round of the NBA Draft overnight Wednesday into Thursday by the Sacramento Kings. He is expected to become the seventh Israeli player in the NBA and to sign with Sacramento.
Sharp is projected to receive a three-year or four-year deal, though many second-round picks in recent years have signed contracts similar to first-round deals, with two guaranteed years and team options for years three and four. Others have received one-year contracts with team options for each of the next two seasons.
Last season, second-round picks signed for a minimum salary of about $1.27 million per year. With an expected rise in the salary cap, Sharp could earn about $1.4 million in his first NBA season if he signs a minimum contract, though in theory the figure could be higher.
Another possibility is a two-way contract, which would split his time between the NBA and the G League and pay significantly less. In that case, Sharp could appear in only 50 NBA games this season, and unlike a first-round pick, Sacramento would not be required to guarantee him a contract for next year.
