A minor car crash in Stafford County, Virginia, led police to arrest a 19-year-old man, Lewis Conley, and a 17-year-old boy after they were found with alcohol, knives, stolen food, and a notebook detailing a plan to kill the teen's parents. The crash was reported on Sunday, June 16, after the car veered off the road and hit a sign. Officers later found the vehicle at a convenience store and took both suspects into custody.
Inside the car, police discovered open alcoholic drinks, several knives, medical supplies, and a notebook containing a step-by-step murder plan. The pair were also carrying a tray of food that had been stolen from a nearby restaurant. Investigators said the two had developed two detailed murder schemes targeting the minor's parents.
According to the investigation, in April the pair exchanged text messages about carrying out the killings at the parents' home. They discussed how to avoid security cameras and debated whether to shoot the parents or slash their throats. Police also said air guns and other bladed weapons were found in the teen's room.
Conley faces multiple charges, including two counts of conspiracy to commit murder, written threats, theft, unlawful purchase of alcohol, driving under the influence, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, possession of controlled substances, and hit-and-run. The 17-year-old was charged with conspiracy to commit murder and written threats. Authorities have not yet said what motivated the plot.
