Senior Religious-Zionist rabbis have issued a public letter of support for the new kashrut bill, which is intended to reorganize Israel’s state-run kosher supervision system and strengthen the authority of the Chief Rabbinate and local rabbinate offices.
In the letter, the rabbis said they were “supporting all those involved in promoting the new kashrut law,” describing it as legislation that anchors the status of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel and the local rabbinates, sets uniform kosher standards for state kosher systems, and regulates the status of kosher inspectors and other employees in the kashrut system.
They also stressed that “state, professional and uniform kashrut is an essential condition for maintaining public trust and strengthening the Jewish character of the State of Israel.”
The rabbis ended by urging Knesset members to back the bill and move it forward quickly, writing, “We call on Knesset members to support this important law and act to advance it swiftly.” The letter was signed by the leadership and presidium of Rabbanei HaAretz HaTova.
