A rare outbreak of violence erupted Wednesday afternoon in Arad, where a large brawl and violent confrontations broke out between Gur Hasidim and secular residents of the city. The clash unfolded near a residential complex and quickly drew in large numbers of people, prompting an immediate security response.
According to journalist Almog Boker, the confrontation began after secular residents tried to block cars carrying Hasidim who were planning to join a convoy headed to Prison 10. Videos from the scene show dozens of people clashing in the street and around the neighborhood, shouting, running, pushing each other, and throwing objects.
The disturbance spread rapidly through nearby buildings and public spaces, with frightened passersby and residents, including women and children, caught in the middle. The violence took place against the backdrop of long-running tensions in the city between the secular and Haredi communities.
Police said that after the first reports came in, reinforced Southern District police units and Border Police fighters were rushed to the scene. Their mission was to restore public order, break up the gatherings, and prevent the violence from escalating further.
