Napoli’s effort to sign Union Saint-Gilloise winger Anan Khalaili has hit an unexpected obstacle, according to reports in Italy. The Israeli player is coming off the best season of his career in Belgium, but the transfer is now complicated by the price tag Union Saint-Gilloise are demanding.
Italian reports say the Belgian club wants 25 million euros for Khalaili, which would be a record fee for an Israeli footballer if the deal happens. The reason, according to the report, is the sell-on payment Union would owe Maccabi Haifa in the event of a sale, so the Belgians have raised the asking price.
Maccabi Haifa are entitled to 15% of the profit from any future sale, after selling Khalaili for 6.5 million euros in summer 2024. If he were sold for 25 million euros, Haifa would receive 2.77 million euros from that clause.
Napoli, however, are not willing to meet the Belgian club’s demand. Reports in Italy mention an offer of 15 million euros, while Napoli would reportedly be prepared to go as high as 20 million euros, still leaving a significant gap in the negotiations.
