Natalia Belloli, the wife of Barcelona and Brazil star Raphinha, publicly rejected rumors that the family is struggling financially. In an interview cited by Daily do Garotinho, she said it was absurd that she even had to address her finances and added, "If we were earning only 10% of what Raphinha earns today, we would still be unbelievably fortunate."
Belloli said she had stayed silent until now because she understood the social reality many people face. She explained that she did not want to post on social media about not being poor, saying such a message would be seen as lacking taste. She also said she was frustrated that the story kept spreading, noting that it had reached Spain and that people there were now believing the couple was in financial trouble.
The dispute began after Andre Batista Santos, better known as Vampeta and a member of Brazil's 2002 World Cup-winning team, claimed on a podcast that Raphinha was dealing with a "serious family problem" and financial difficulties. Vampeta also suggested the alleged situation could affect whether Raphinha leaves Barcelona for Saudi football. He later admitted the claim was based on a rumor he had heard during the World Cup from people close to Barcelona's environment.
The comments drew strong reactions in Brazil. Among them, Raphinha's cousin Igor Padilha wrote to Vampeta, "You will have to explain these lies, my friend." Meanwhile, Raphinha is focusing on Brazil and recovering from the muscle injury he suffered in the 3-0 win over Haiti.
